More evidence that republican reagonimics is literally killing us.

In 2021, 1.1 million deaths would have been averted in the United States if the US had mortality rates similar to other wealthy nations,..
“Think of people you know who have passed away before reaching age 65. Statistically, half of them would still be alive if the US had the mortality rates of our peers. The US is experiencing a crisis of early death that is unique among wealthy nations.”…
The US had lower mortality rates than peer countries during World War II and its aftermath. During the 1960’s and 1970’s, the US had mortality rates similar to other wealthy nations, but the number of Missing Americans began to increase year by year starting in the 1980’s, reaching 622,534 annual excess US deaths by 2019. Deaths then spiked to 1,009,467 in 2020 and 1,090,103 in 2021 during the pandemic. From 1980 to 2021, there were a total of 13.1 million Missing Americans.
The researchers emphasize that this mortality crisis is a multiracial phenomenon and is not specific to minoritized groups. Black and Native Americans are overrepresented in these measures… Still, two-thirds of the Missing Americans are White, a result of the larger population of White Americans, their older age distribution, and death rates that are significantly higher than other wealthy nations…
They connect the large excess mortality burden to the failure of US policy to adequately address major public health issues, including the opioid epidemic, gun violence, environmental pollution, economic inequality, food insecurity, and workplace safety. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated many of these issues, particularly among lower-income and minority groups, and now that most of the safety-net policies created during COVID-19 have expired, vulnerable groups have lost vital support.
“We waste hundreds of billions each year on health insurers’ profits and paperwork, while tens of millions can’t afford medical care, healthy food, or a decent place to live,” says study senior author Dr. Steffie Woolhandler, Distinguished Professor at the School of Urban Public Health at Hunter College, City University of New York. “Americans die younger than their counterparts elsewhere because when corporate profits conflict with health, our politicians side with the corporations.”…
“cost of living crisis” give me a FUCKING break it’s called “unprecedented corporate greed and income inequality” fucking cost of living crisis like it’s just a natural or unexplainable phenomenon Christ
I’m when drag queens start molesting children let me know. Until then, I’ll worry about protecting my kid from churches, where real child sex abuse happens and is covered up every day. Churches are organized crime!
This anti-drag nonsense is all about making people scared while the real abuse is hidden by churches.
So wearing a dress and makeup is inherently sexual performance? Dont let women around children!!!!
Only gay men, and butch lesbians can be around children! Also trans women, and trans men as long as they wear pants.
Bara gym bro gay men and lesbians dressed like 30s mobsters should be around children periodt
Nods
And heavily armed
There’s something a bit funny about right wingers saying the clothes designed for women, many which their partners or themselves as women use, become these degenerate, sexually suggestive and politically charged objects the moment they are wore by men…that’s a quite interesting phenomenon really 🤔
As much as I don’t think drag queens are appropriate for kids, I also don’t think people are “grooming” kids by showing life outside of the cishet bubble.
Let’s make a deal, straight people: We give up drag queen story hour and you give up those creepy-ass baby onesies that brag about how much of a flirt or sexual dynamo your six-month-old is.
Yes. Those are both good things to be rid of.
Drag queens are in the same class as strippers and burlesque performers: great fun at 18+ events, but probably not a good idea to be the centerpiece at childrens’ events in full costume.
Bless you for not having a double standard about straight and gay culture objectifying kids.
Sadly, most people who are against drag queen events do.
Maybe we’re just looking at different groups. Most people I follow who don’t like drag queen story hour are also against sexualization of children in any form.
drag queens are not known for their story telling abilities but are known for being sexually transgressive, it’s their whole deal, it’s their thing
the only purpose of a drag queen story hour is to piss off normies. that’s why you’re doing it! it’s not about grooming, the children are really kind of incidental to the whole thing, it’s about pissing off normies and going “ooooh, I’m flaunting gender norms, doesn’t this upset you normies, aren’t your minds blown by me going outside the binary of your gender expression?” because if that wasn’t the point there’s literally no point in picking drag queens for story time as opposed to any other hobby. how many lolita fashion storytimes are there? how many steampunk gears-on-corsets storytimes? civil war re-enactor storytimes? probably a few, there’s a lot of libraries out there, but there’s no fucking national movement to spread and defend and normalize them and all of us know why this is where the effort is being directed to.
and then everyone has to pretend to be stupid and act like they just don’t KNOW how someone could possibly be pissed off by it unless they’re terrible people who have all the contemptible beliefs you get to feel righteous about hating. but you do know. because you did this to piss them off, and they got pissed off by it. no amount of sophistry and pretending to be stupid will change the fact that they are pissed off at a thing that you did for the sole and exclusive purpose of pissing them off.
people notice what you’re doing and what you’re prioritizing, not just what you tell them to notice. the left seems not to get this. the left is always surprised when anyone opposes them on anything.
Anyone here remember ‘Desmond is Amazing’, on of a handful of young boys being very publicly peddled as ‘drag kids’ and brought around fully adult drag shows where they danced in often near to nothing for the entertainment of an audience, often getting handed cash like a stripper?
No? Because I find it very interesting that the moment that and the fact that Desmond started mimicing people doing drugs got the height of it’s media attention, suddenly there were a LOT of ‘drag for kids’ events, as if there was some kind of push to reframe drag as entirely safe for children.
People don’t like to admit it bcs cringe or w/e but Homestuck really did revolutionize the webcomic as a storytelling medium and I am endlessly frustrated that before webcomic artists could really stretch our legs fucking webtoonz swooped in, set a new, more restrictive standard, and then monetized and monopolized the ever living fuck out of the concept of The Webcomic until it drove away anyone who couldn’t be a professional quality manga artist for free, and now the only webcomics that actually feel like spiritual successors to Homestuck are so obscure they’re basically cult classics that you have to beg people to read.
Like it’s just so wild to be in high school and see Homestuck be like “we’re using like fifteen different artistic mediums to tell this story bcs we can” and be really fucking inspired by that, only to grow up and see basically every webcomic ever have to conform to One Single Standard or fucking perish.
Actually, I realized my real point here: we all need to make our art weirder. Please make weird art. I want more stuff like Prequel Adventure and 17776 and MyHouse.wad and I want it now. Capitalism thrives on conformity. We must be weird at all costs.
“oh they’re not taking away chronological dashboard, well everything’s okay then” they also said in the post they’re making reblogs collapsed (like comments on twitter) so you won’t see the full conversation in a post. they also won’t get rid of tumblr live despite it being an annoying and cancerous data-miner that isn’t legal in much of the world. they won’t even let you opt out of tumblr live for more than seven days. they implemented a terrible photo viewer that mimics tiktok and makes it so you can’t zoom in on images. they took away the ability to view prev tags. they’re making it so you have to sign in with your email to view almost any thing on tumblr. they’ve already made it so you have to sign in to send asks, even on anon. they’re slowly phasing out custom blog themes.
the things that make tumblr at all usable and favored by us– the older web blog features, the anonymity– that is still being taken away. it HAS been being taken away for some time now. i am urging you people to reveiwbomb the tumblr app. force them to acknowledge that users do not like these changes.
“Think of the two major possibilities here: Either the studios owe untold millions to their talents and paying it out will decimate their stock prices, or they owe so little because there really is no money in streaming and the bubble of their entire 21st century business model will burst in spectacular fashion. And make no mistake: this is a bubble. This is the inevitable climax of a stockholder-driven hunger for infinite growth, despite the fact that, by design, such a thing cannot and should not exist. The infection of Wall Street has overwhelmed the entertainment industry beyond repair, leading to cultural vandals like David Zaslav to be appointed with the callous duty of strip-mining decades’ of artistic beauty for pennies of tax write-offs. The past and future are frivolous in comparison to the short-term demands that the line keep going up.”
if you have a custom domain set, DO NOT UNTICK THE BUTTON on blog settings. you’re not allowed to add it back. (nope, that’s not mentioned anywhere on blog settings itself.) if you switch hosts and need to update nameservers, congrats! you’re fucked
custom domains were a feature that’s been available over a decade, but they’ve been unceremoniously removed. the idea of “legacy” domains is a joke
this is doubly egregious because they absolutely could be selling domains for people that don’t have one, while still allowing those of us that already had a domain to keep using ours. they also don’t even allow you to pay to use your own. so if someone bought a domain specifically to use on tumblr, if they accidentally untick the button then poof! they’re fucked because they can’t re-buy their own domain from tumblr
it’s honestly pathetic how much of a transparent cash grab this is at worst, and how badly implemented this was at best. this is what happens when you accept incompetency as a modus operandi bc “lol quirky hellsite”
i highly, HIGHLY recommend not investing in this feature due to that incompetency and lack of transparency
I’m taking away the word empathy from the NTs until they discover it isn’t a synonym for “giving a shit about people”
In an attempt to be less of a dick:
empathy is a brain function that some people (including me!) struggle with.
There are three types! Affective empathy, which is basically the ability to read other people’s emotions, Somatic empathy, the classic “I feel sad because you’re sad” and Cognitive empathy, which is the ability to accurately guess what people are thinking and feeling.
If you use empathy to mean “caring about other people” when you could use words like compassion, you’re implying a large subsection of the population (including people you may know) are heartless and bad simply because of the way they were born!
Not cool!

The original Tweet reads: “do the studios realize that the current state of streaming residuals absolutely destroys the moral case against piracy”.
The ReTweet adds on: “like the moral case against piracy is ‘people deserve to get paid for their work’ except it turns out the people getting paid aren’t the people who did the work’”.
